The Studio
In late 2012 we added our new studio apartment to our range of Tobago beach accommodation at Castara Retreats. This is a one bedroom and entirely private apartment located below Birdsong Lodge, with stunning ocean views of Castara Bay and the Caribbean beyond. Offering our most modestly priced accommodation, The Studio is rented separately from Birdsong, and this creates a new option for clients seeking to enjoy the atmosphere and facilities at Castara Retreats within a more modest budget. This accommodation is more enclosed than the others and does not catch a breeze, and for this reason we installed air-conditioning in the bedroom. It is our only accommodation offering air conditioning.
The Studio features a spacious covered terrace as an open plan living/dining/kitchen area approximately 15 x 12 feet. There is comfortable seating in which to relax, read a book, or simply take in the view. Also a dining table with two comfortable chairs and a large double hammock for single or double occupancy.
On one side of this covered deck area is a well-equipped kitchen with cooker, full-size fridge freezer and hardwood cupboards built by local craftsmen and well-resourced for clients who are keen on cooking. As with all the accommodations at Castara Retreats there is an iron, ironing board, hair dryer, security safe, and ventilation fan.
The bedroom looks out onto the covered deck to the ocean beyond with fine views from the bed. Featuring a comfortable queen size bed, with top quality mosquito net on a purpose made frame, it has storage and hanging space as well as bedside shelves and lamps, together with an occasional table with additional lamp.. The floor is the same beautiful red cedar that covers the ceiling and most of the floor area of this apartment. Adjoining the bedroom is a compact en suite shower room with large mirror and discrete spotlights. Double French doors lead from the bedroom onto the terrace.
Everything in the apartment is new and well appointed to the high standards that clients have come to expect of Castara Retreats, and is well soundproofed from Birdsong above. The Studio is a little smaller than Hummingbird 2 and the main difference is that it does not have an outside deck. The covered deck faces west and this is perfect for watching the setting sun and for the westerly views both down the coast and out to sea. This private and open plan apartment is not overlooked by any other accommodation. The driveway to Castara Retreats is located just below, and this offers the quickest way to the beach in a four or five minute walk.
The whole area, including the terrace, offers a choice of lighting with discrete spotlights, lamps which are perfect for creating soft low lighting, and wall lights.
