Tobago accommodation

Restaurant & Bar

After lots of requests from guests and visitors to provide a little sophistication and more options for eating out and drinking in Castara, we have opened a restaurant and bar at Castara Retreats in Tobago.  We made a first tentative step in January 2012 by offering a cocktail, bottle of chilled wine, or vintage rum in our smart licensed bar on our extended pagoda overlooking Castara Bay.  This was such a success that we arranged two evening meals a week in response to requests from visitors seeking an additional option to local food. These evenings got off to a great start and our guests really appreciated the relaxed atmosphere and opportunity to meet other guests over a couple of hours of dining.

As a result, in December 2012 we opened our restaurant offering stylish three course meals from 6pm Saturday to Thursday in partnership with Kenny and Patricia, a Trini-Italian couple now living in Castara with their family.  Patricia makes delicious hand-made ravioli and tortellini and there will also be chicken, fish and vegetarian dishes as well as a choice of desserts.   They also offer refreshing juices and fresh fruit cordials for our younger guests and those who would prefer a non-alcoholic drink.  A sample menu is available here:

On Friday nights, we offer our popular BBQs with fish fresh off the grill, chicken and vegetable dishes as well as a home-made dessert.  Download sample menu.

For those guests wishing to dine in privacy we also offer, by prior arrangement, full service meals for those staying with us at Castara Retreats.

The pagoda is spacious with comfortable seating for up to 20 people, and offering atmospheric lighting and soft music against the backdrop of spectacular views and sunsets over the Caribbean.  So, if you would like to join in, tell Kenny when you arrive or call him at 766 1010, or email Jean in advance of arriving, and they will reserve you a place.

Please note that credit card facilities are not available locally at Castara Retreats.  This is because our local partners offer all of the additional services as part of our philosophy of sharing the benefits of tourism with local people, who are not in a position to organise credit card facilities.  Hence the restaurant, bar, laundry, boat trips, car hire, airport pick-ups and weddings are managed by our team of locals who are responsible for the quality of their service and who operate their service within the local economy.

Over the years, our managers Porridge and Jeanell have offered simple, affordable wedding services for those guests who wanted a Caribbean wedding in Tobago.  Adding the bar and restaurant to Castara Retreats means it will now be possible for those guests to arrange a special meal for their reception in collaboration with Kenny and Patricia with dining for up to 30 guests.
