Currency

The local currency is TT dollars with exchange rates as follows:

$6 tt to $1 US
$10 tt to £1 sterling

We take £300 in local currency (ie approx 3000 tt dollars) for our first week, and this goes a long way. This can be backed up with travellers’ cheques in US dollars which you can change in Scarborough banks and many other places eg hotels. Usually Max will change travellers’ cheques in his supermarket.

Credit cards are widely accepted down the bottom end of the island near the airport and in Scarborough

ATM /ABM cash dispensers are found at the airport, in Scarborough and at the Hilton Hotel and accept MasterCard, Visa, Cirrus and Plus cards.
