Boat Trips with Sunarise Tours

Many of our clients have enjoyed something special when they have been out on a boat trip in ‘Sunarise’ and a look at the comments in the Visitors’ Books will reveal a host of enthusiastic comments as people describe the fun they had.  As a consequence the trips have become a “must do” activity for many of our clients.  If you would like to go on a trip, either fishing or for an all day picnic trip, do talk with Porridge and he will advise you on what is available.

Sunarise Tours is a recent venture by Porridge and Sherwin for which we have provided a new, well equipped boat for them to offer trips to our clients and others staying in the village.  Our motivation is to ensure good comfort and safety for clients, with a boat purpose designed for tours, and powered by two state of the art Mercury 4-stroke engines.  These are low emission engines, and for safety reasons are installed with separate fuel tanks, fuel lines and marine batteries to ensures continued power in the event of one engine failing.  A full complement of life jackets is on board and Sherwin and Porridge always carry cell phones.  There is a large canopy for sun protection and clear gangways for ease of movement within the boat.  Sunarise Tours operates with public liability insurance and has applied for registration as a professional tour operator.

The charges listed below have been stable for three years and the investment in a new boat has not resulted in additional charges.  We are happy to publish this to inform you about what is available but we do not accept any responsibility for your well being or safety should you take a trip.

Trip 1: all day picnic trip- $ 400 tt or £35 per person

One option is an all day trip to No-Man’s Land, the Nylon Pool and the Coral Garden, with barbecue and drinks.  Fishing is offered en route, and the catch can be barbecued for lunch or brought home.  Stops for snorkelling or visits to isolated beaches if requested.  The lunch at No-Man’s Land often develops into a bit of a party with visitors from other boats, with music and limbo dancing.  Talk with Porridge about what you would like.

An alternative is an all day trip, starting up the coast, to snorkel at Englishman’s Bay and Back River, with fishing en route and sometimes out to the Sisters.  Then back past Castara to Big Bay for a barbecue and drinks.  The merit of this trip is that Big Bay is idyllic, with good swimming and snorkeling, and is less likely to have the same level of party atmosphere as at No-Man’s Land.  Also, the Big Bay option is preferable for those who want to spend less time in the boat and more time on the beach and snorkeling.  Lunch is a quality barbecue with chicken, fish and vegetarian food together with plenty of beers, rum punch, and soft drinks.

Talk with Porridge and see what suits you best.  Often these trips include visitors from other accommodations in Castara Retreats, or in the village.  Our experience is that people bond well and form good friendships.  If you want a private trip, then this can be accommodated too, but you will need to negotiate a special price for the exclusive use of the boat.  Both trips are wonderful, and there are regular sightings of dolphins and turtles.

Trip 2: fishing

Fishing trips are also available on request.  The price is negotiable, as often it involves only 1 or 2 people, and there is no way of filling the boat.  Talk with Porridge and see what is possible, and arrange a fishing trip to suit.

  • Always agree your price in advance. Clients who book more than 1 trip may receive a reduction. Children under 14 years are half price, providing they are with 2 or more adults.
  • We strongly recommend that you check that there are life jackets for each occupant, and that children always wear one. Check that the captain has a cell phone with credit on it. Please do not be shy to check on these important safety matters. The captain does not drink alcohol during the trip.
