Hummingbird 2
Hummingbird 2 is a newly renovated one-bedroom Tobago apartment which adjoins Hummingbird 1 and is located on the west side of the main house at Castara Retreats with panoramic views of the beach and the whole of Castara Bay. It is surrounded by lush, tropical gardens with a covered pagoda only a few steps away looking west through the old mango trees to the ocean and the setting sun. It’s a lovely setting for the perfect Caribbean vacation.
Following the recent renovations of these Tobago apartments, it is now possible for two couples or a family to rent both apartments. When the wooden dividing wall between Hummingbird 1 & 2 is retracted, it has a spacious 32-foot terrace that spans the whole front of this beautiful Tobago accommodation with comfortable seating and dining options. It is perfect for those who appreciate privacy within a shared environment and two en suite shower rooms.
In August 2007, we took the opportunity to install a swish new shower room and a spacious fitted wardrobe in Hummingbird 2. In March 2009, we created a new bedroom with twin beds that can be converted to a king size bed on request. At the same time we extended the covered deck area with a well-equipped neat new kitchen with cooker, full-size fridge freezer and hardwood cupboards built by local craftsmen. New hardwood windows and entrance complete the picture with everything built to the same high standards and attention to detail as in Hummingbird 1. As with all the accommodations at Castara Retreats there is an iron, ironing board, hair dryer, security safe, and ventilation fan. We have just installed a good quality iPod docking system for those that love music when on their holiday in Tobago. You can also use your iPhones and MP3 players on the system provided you pick up a mini jack to stereo RCA cable (available at Dixons at airports). We are happy to provide this system but please be mindful of volume level both during the day and in the evening so you do not disturb your neighbours.
Hummingbird 2 is a little smaller than Hummingbird 1 and the main difference is that it does not have a private outside terrace, but does have easy access to the covered pagoda just a few steps away for enjoying the setting sun and the westerly view over the Caribbean. The covered terrace is a good size 16' x 12' plus a 12' x 4' area in which we have created the kitchen. All in all there is a spacious 16' x 16' open plan terrace room for cooking, dining, relaxing and limin' with comfortable chairs, a hardwood coffee table and full size hammock - all with views to the beach and bay.
Manta rays can regularly be seen in the ocean below and hummingbirds arrive every few minutes to feed on the Ornamental Bananas and colourful flowers. Bananaquits have even nested in the candle holders that we provide for each accommodation!
The whole area, including the terrace, is illuminated by spotlights with dimmer controls, which are perfect for creating soft low lighting for a romantic atmosphere during vacations in Tobago and with the added benefit of avoiding the tropical insects that are attracted by bright light.
