Originally a fisherman’s shack, this delightful building was newly -renovated in August 2007 and is even more superbly located than the apartments. It is a bit higher up and has dual aspect views to the beach below and a clear view to the Caribbean Sea to the west. This means you can enjoy the spectacular sunsets no matter what time of year you visit. The renovation has been sensitively done to high standards whilst retaining the building’s unique Caribbean character with weatherboard exterior and fretwork trim. It is constructed of Red Cedar, a hardwood cut from the rainforest some 60 years ago – with the hand planing and saw markings still visible.

The bedroom (13ft by 15ft) has louvered windows designed to catch the cool breezes that come over the hill from the east, two hanging rails and a rustic wooden dressing table/desk as well as a wicker chest of drawers in keeping with our natural approach. The bedroom has a polished hardwood floor, similar to Rainforest, and a queen sized bed with white bed linen and frame mosquito net. The shower room, toilet and basin open off the living room.

The Kitchen has now been opened out into the living room (20ft by 15ft) which allows free movement of air and uninterrupted views both over Castara Bay and west over the Caribbean. The two areas are separated by a magnificent rosewood storage cupboard built by a local craftsman. Its top has doubled the food preparation area. The kitchen is modern and well equipped with an enormous fridge/freezer, gas cooker, good quality pots and pans, cutlery and china for six people, glassware, toaster, coffee pots, teapots and blender/ice crusher.

View from living areaThe original porch has also been massively extended to create a large covered deck area (13ft by 15ft) that offers a wonderfully open environment for hanging out, gazing at the views, dining or liming with other people. Similar to the new bedroom, the covered deck is constructed of wide hardwood planks of yellow cedar giving the floor a gorgeous yellow glow. The deck is furnished with comfortable seating for four people, with a large low level table for informal dining with space to seat up to eight friends and family. There is also a small full height breakfast table as an alternative dining option. This deck is the main living area and with its comfortable seating and with wonderful views is perfect for relaxing or for dining and entertaining. Next to the covered deck is a lockable storage cupboard for beach gear, snorkels etc.

The new extension has increased the overall floor area to 800 square feet with the grain and natural flow of the wood dictating the final look. The surrounding trees have been thoughtfully pruned to take full advantage of the spectacular unhindered views to the west down to the beach and across the bay.

Outside is a large private terrace with westerly panoramic views. In August 2007, this was transformed into a stylish deck with integral benches and a table and four chairs providing the perfect viewing point for sunsets, stars and fireflies. The deck has greatly enhanced the comfort of the terrace which probably has the best outlook in Castara.

People who have stayed in Fisherman’s have been fulsome in their appreciation of both its location and its intimacy. It is ideal for a honeymoon couple or those celebrating a special anniversary. A hair dryer, hammock, free standing ventilator, iron, CD player and security safe are provided.
